Berkswell & Balsall 1st XV 25 - Nuneaton Old Edwardians 11
20th October 2007
The BB's make if 5 from 6 and maintain their second position in the league. The BB,s demonstrated a collective resilience to come back from an early 6 - nil deficit care of two long range penalties from the impressive boot of the visitors fly half. It was clear penalties in kickable range would be punished anda lesson was learnt. Dogged defense however limited the visitors little time in the BBs' half. The terratorial pressure exerted by the BB's paid dividends with two penalties in close succession to bring the scores level at 6 - 6. The BB's took the lead 24 mins into the first half from a Driving Maul from a line out on the 22 Joe Cart getting the touch down - converted. The second half ended with the BB's forwards drving the Nuneaton Pack back on a 5 metre scrum on their own line. The ball shot out of the scrum for Dan Rochall for to use his feline reactions to touch the ball down for a try - converted.
The Second half began with Nuneaton looking to move the ball wide from the BB's dominant pack, but the BB's backline holding fast . The opening points of the half fell to the visitors through a penalty. The BB's continued to give away penalties throughout the half allowing Nuneaton to maintain position within the BB's half. The visitors eventually out flanking the home defence for a try out wide - unconverted. With time running out for Nuneaton their attempt to run the ball from their own line breakdown with Roman Coombes hacking through to touch down unconverted.
