1st XV U17's Fixtures

Berkswell & Balsall 1st XV 10 - Bedworth 3

22nd September 2007

Up north they say defence wins games, and on Saturday this was the basis for BB's victory. With Coombes and Aldersley closing down the visitors lively backline, the back row stifling any continuity the visitors tried to create and the Pack working hard in the set piece the BB's limited the visitors to little time in the danger zone and one attempt on goal . In attack BB's dominated territory kicking a large percentage of possession with mixed sucess. Following a missed penalty and several close range attempts to breach the visitors line the BB's the first points of the game did not come until 5 mins before half time, the catch and drive paying dividends Mills getting the unconverted touch down, the visitors also loosing a second row to the sin bin for collapsing the mall. From the kick off BB's conceeded a sloppy penalty converted to three points. 5 - 3 at half time. Up the hill BB's back three worked hard to return the rangey kicks from the visitors fly half, the team's defensive qualities were tested most during this period. The BB's gained good territory during the half, a penalty from persitant infringement by the visitors hitting the cross bar. 20 minutes into the half nerves were settled with another catch and drive line out for Mills second touch down, unconverted. Fitness levels held up for the BB's following hard work in the week. The game was closed out by a rakeing kick from Frank, hours of practise on the kick golf paying dividends. MoM Roman Coombes
